About Chalet Snowbird & Chalet Alta

Mürren is a typical Swiss car free village located in the Bernese Alps 45 minutes outside the beautiful city of Interlaken. World famous scenery, hiking and skiing are at your doorstep. The closest restaurant and bar is only a two minute walk away. If you want spacious, quiet, private, cozy and spectacular, this place is for you, with a peace you’ve never before experienced.

Chalet Alta and Chalet Snowbird, perched above Mürren, are named after two famous ski resorts in Utah, in the Western USA. You can access Mürren either by car or by train from Interlaken Ost via Lauterbrunnen. Take the BLM Aerial Cable Car from Lauterbrunnen into Mürren. A 170 meter/4 minute walk from the BLM train station brings you to our chalet entry portal. Here you can store luggage not needed in Mürren such as your city clothes! Just bring warm comfortable clothing and good footwear as many trails are unpaved, damp or snow covered. Here you can store skis/boards/sleds/boots with a pad lock assigned to the apartment.

If you prefer to park in Stechelberg, and take the two-stage, Schilthornbahn to Mürren you will have to walk for 15 minutes through the village (or hire a taxi) from the south end to the north end (This is why we recommend using Lauterbrunnen and the very close BLM station!).

Walk up a 10 meter stairway to our chalets. This stairway prevents handicap access. Each step brings you closer to the best view of any Mürren apartment rental across the Lauterbrunnen Valley to the Eiger North Wall and Jungfrau Massif. Your vacation home is beautifully located in a quiet setting near a stream where Chamois visit daily from the adjacent wildlife preserve (because we are so close to this preserve, we cannot welcome dogs and cats to our chalets at any time.)

The chalets, from International Homes of Cedar (www.ihoc.com), were erected in 2011 and 2012 largely by helicopter. They are adjacent to summer hiking trails and winter ski runs. They offer easy access to the entire Jungfrau Region Railway skiing and hiking domains via the nearby BLM station, and to the Schilthorn lift system in the winter via the intermediate Winteregg lift and thereby avoid lift lines. During ski season, the site offers direct return ski access via the Palace Run to Mürren.

Upper Chalet Alta, the higher of the two, has an apartment that sleeps 4 people. Chalet Snowbird, on the other hand, has two apartments and two studios. The Upper Snowbird Apartment sleeps 5 while Lower Snowbird sleeps 4. The Upper Studio with Loft sleeps 4 while the Cozy Studio with Kitchenette sleeps 2. The upper two can be combined to sleep 9 while the lower two can be combined to sleep 6. Or, the entire chalet can be rented to sleep 15.

The three main apartments each feature a nicely furnished spacious living rooms and dining areas with wood burning stoves and radiant floor heating. They offer king bedded master bedrooms and walk in closets leading to spiffy modern bathrooms with bathtubs. The spiffy, fully equipped modern kitchens have granite counter tops, dishwashers, four burner glass topped stoves and ovens. The large refrigerators each have a freezer. Each has a granite bar area with 3 bar stools.

The upper floors of both chalets have spacious vaulted open beam wood ceilings. Large windows look across the spectacular Lauterbrunnen Valley with its 72 waterfalls to the awesome North Face of the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau. At our site the view angle to those peaks is optimal. When you tire of gazing at the ever changing views, there are wall mounted cable TVs and free, direct internet connections or Wi-Fi.

Feel free to consult the descriptions of the individual apartments and studios on our website to help decide which one best suits your needs. Once you have confirmed/prepaid your apartment, you will receive more information and the key code for your entry door. There will be a Chalet Manual in your apartment. During Summer, the apartments can be rented for a minimum of three nights and during Winter a four night minimum, or by the week, the month or the season. During February and the holiday high season, there is a 7 night Saturday-Saturday minimum.

After you check in, you'll be welcomed by our Property Managers, who will register you for the "Kurtaxe" which is already prepaid. See also the preceding contact information. Take the form to the Tourist Office to receive discounts in the village and free entry into the spacious Sport Center, (www.sportzentrum-muerren.ch/en) with its year-round free indoor swimming and free winter ice-skating. Consider buying an early morning ticket to enjoy breakfast atop the Schilthorn watching the Alps pass by as you revolve 360 degrees in one hour. See why James Bond loved it!
